It may mean that I prefer a train in front of a car that is more environmentally demanding. This may mean writing on both sides of the paper and making sure I can show visitors where to eat in Prague at popular prices, not where they will find a Czech imitation of an overpriced foreign restaurant. It may mean that I will go for a walk to the Krč Forest and I will enjoy the ducks at the U Labutě pond instead of a car ride to Tábor, where there is a good train connection. Voluntary modesty is not about austerity. It is about the demandingness, the joy of life instead of the joy of wealth. It's about antisnobism.
